⚠️ RV Alert: NPS Changes in 2023

Updated: Jul 10, 2023

The National Park Service (NPS) is making a number of changes in 2023.

  • Requiring timed-entry reservations for some parks: This is being done to reduce overcrowding and improve visitor experience. Some parks that will require timed-entry reservations include Arches National Park, Zion National Park, and Yosemite National Park.

  • Increasing fees: Fees for camping, hiking, and other activities will be increased in some parks. The NPS says that the fee increases are necessary to maintain and improve park facilities.

  • Investing in climate resilience: The NPS is investing in projects to make parks more resilient to climate change. This includes projects to improve water management, restore habitats, and reduce fire risk.

  • Connecting people with their parks: The NPS is working to connect more people with their national parks. This includes programs to increase diversity in the park workforce, improve access to parks, and educate the public about the importance of parks.

The National Park Service is also facing a number of challenges that will affect us all.

  • Understaffing: The NPS is facing a shortage of staff, which is making it difficult to provide adequate services to visitors.

  • Budget cuts: The NPS is facing budget cuts, which will make it difficult to maintain and improve park facilities.

  • Climate change: Climate change is posing a threat to park resources, such as glaciers, sea turtles, and coral reefs.

Despite these challenges, the National Park Service is committed to providing a high-quality visitor experience and protecting our national parks for future generations.
