🔎 RV Review: Maritime Seafood Museum

We RV to the Gulf Coast quite often. Mainly because we love the beaches, but also because there's so much to do. On one of our visits to Biloxi, Mississippi, we ventured out to The Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum. Turns out it was a great place to learn about the rich history and culture of the Gulf Coast. The museum tells the story of the region's maritime heritage, from its early days as a Native American trading ground to its modern-day status as a major fishing and shipping hub.

The museum's exhibits include a variety of artifacts, photographs, and interactive displays. Visitors can learn about the different types of ships that have sailed the Gulf Coast, the history of fishing in the region, and the importance of seafood to the local economy.

The museum also offers a variety of educational programs and events. These programs are designed to teach visitors about the maritime and seafood industries, and to help them appreciate the importance of these industries to the Gulf Coast region.

If you're interested in learning more about the maritime and seafood industries, or if you're just looking for a fun and educational day out, the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum is a great place to visit. Here are some of the highlights of the museum.

  • The Grand Hall, which features a 30-foot gaff-rigged cabin sloop called the Nydia The Small Wooden Boats Gallery, which exhibits a variety of small wooden boats that were used in the Gulf Coast region

  • The Coastal Ecology Gallery, which explores the natural environment of the Gulf Coast

  • The Fishing Industry Gallery, which tells the story of fishing in the Gulf Coast region

  • The Heritage Hall of Fame, which recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the maritime and seafood industries

The museum is open from 9am to 4:30pm Monday through Saturday, and from noon to 4pm on Sunday. Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and students, and free for children under 5.

The museum is located at 115 First Street in Biloxi, Mississippi. For more information, visit the museum's website at www.maritimemuseum.org.

We visited with our good friends Michael and Shelly. As a young man, Michael worked the boats and docks of South Carolina's seafood industry. So he was able to enlighten us on many of the museum's displays, as well as fishing and canning practices. We had a great time and shot a Youtube video of the experience.

Here are some additional tips for visiting the museum.

  • Allow at least two hours to see the museum.

  • Wear comfortable shoes, as you'll be doing some walking.

  • Bring a camera to capture your memories.

  • If you have children, be sure to check out the museum's educational programs and events.

So, go ahead and point your RV toward Biloxi, because we know you'll enjoy the beautiful beaches and the Maritime and Seafood Industry Museum.
